Delivering a meaningful Gross Margin Return on Inventory Investment (GMROII) has been an increasing important retail metric over the past 10 years. Simply stated, turn product as fast as possible with the lowest level of inventory required to prevent being out of stock. Century operates on two fundamental customer promises. Orders in by 11:00am are shipped by 5:00pm the same day and each order is shipped on average 98% complete. The combination of these two actions ensures the timely delivery of the right inventory. For our warehouse customers, Century benefits from perpetual high marks on shipping accuracy and ease of receiving. These programs are serviced through a variety of direct import shipment options and domestic inventory held in our Wisconsin facility. The flexibility of Century’s customer service options have been cited as a standard for being “easy to do business with” by many of our distributor customers. For our drop-ship retail customers, Century continues to provide one of the most valuable programs in the industry. In fact, we have larger customers with fully functioning distribution disciplines that have opted to have Century deliver directly to their stores. The elimination of duplicate resources in the supply chain, speed to shelf and reduced risk of damage from redundant touches have been cited as the key benefits. Same day shipping and 98% fill rate together with our “man in the aisle” program means these customers experience the closest thing to a worry free aisle as they might have in their stores. The recent expansion of our Hand Tool line was an additional effort to build efficiency into the supply chain. It does so by allowing these retailers to source additional relevant products under the same invoice, purchase order, receiving resources and shipping minimums. |
